Who is this podcast for?
This is the podcast for anyone who is going through the diagnosis of a chronic health condition, anyone living with a chronic illness, or anyone supporting those that do. Sally and Seona have work with hundreds of people with chronic health conditions, and have lived experience themselves. They know just how beneficial hearing other’s experiences can be if trying to grapple with challenges, reframe their perspective or just needing to share a laugh with others who get it.
Why did you start this podcast?
But You look So Good Podcast was developed because we saw a gap. A space is needed for sharing and laughing and coming together with other people who live with chronic health conditions. Essentially, we know that there are thousands of people just like us, who worry about the same stuff, who need to upgrade their psych resources, who hear interesting comments that others make about chronic illnesses, and who want to be able to share a giggle with friends about it.
What are your goals?
We want to bring a bit of info, education, wisdom and strategy to the pod, but ultimately it is about connecting with people that get it. Come laugh along with us while you are on the treadmill, doing the dishes, driving to work, or relaxing in the recliner, as we share some of our stories and explore some concepts that are familiar to people living with chronic illnesses. Let’s just have a chat about it.
MEET THE HOSTS
Sally Shaw
Sally was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001 when she was figuring out what to research for her doctoral thesis - so she became 'that person' and researched the illness she had been diagnosed with. It started a life long passion for talking to people who have also gone through a change in their health status and are wanting to develop coping strategies and psychological resources for dealing with it. Podcasting made so much sense (once Seona talked her into it!) as an addition to individual client sessions.
When Sally isn’t working, she is eating chocolate, attending kids’ sports, going to the gym, having brunch with her husband, spending time with the fabulous women in her life, planning all the holidays that she would love to take, and being as curious as she can be about her world and her reactions to whatever it presents.
Seona Ilalio
Diagnosed with a chronic health condition as a teenager, Seona embarked on a journey of self-discovery, realising that while many aspects of her health were beyond her control, she could still exert influence in meaningful ways. As a psychologist, Seona believes in the power of shared experiences, recognising that we are all merely human, navigating life with its many challenges—something she finds unifying rather than isolating.
When Seona isn’t working, she’s spending time with her husband and two very active boys, trying out as many new restaurants as possible with friends, or diving into new creative pursuits. Whether she’s experimenting with new recipes, growing veggies, or attempting a masterpiece on canvas, Seona embraces the joy of discovery—even when it comes with a few hiccups along the way.
Sally and Seona love collaborating on projects together, as well as working in the Livology clinic seeing clients. In a bold move for their profession and level of coolness, But You Look So Good brings them together for a chat and a laugh!
